A trip back in time: the origins of Ferrara
This itinerary begins with a visit to the ancient Church of Saint George outside the walls the site of Ferrara’s first archbishopric with its Benedictine monastery. Although the building has undergone alterations through the centuries it still retains its special magical atmosphere.
Using the tour bus we continue to the National Archeological Museum of Ferrara, which is located inside the magnificent Palazzo Costabili. Here visitors can learn about the early inhabitants of Spina, the Etruscan settlement located in the Delta of the Po river. Inside the museum there is a special itinerary designed for people with visual impairment which allows the visitor to physically touch some of the attic vases. Taking the bus once again we cross through the Renaissance part of Ferrara, stopping by the Este Castle, the impressive fortress surrounded by a moat and on foot we proceed to the medieval Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque-Gothic art.
