Architecture in Ferrara in the 1920’s
The visit begins at the railway station and takes in the Quartiere Giardino (Garden Quarter), an area which was built in the 1920’s. In front of the beautiful villas of the bourgeois, built in this period, it is possible to understand fascist style architecture particularly in the case of the monumental Aqueduct. Crossing through the town we walk past a building which is a symbol of these years: La Casa del Fascio (the Fascist Party Headquarters), the Aeronautic building and the main Post office, arriving at the Este Family Castle, a symbol of power also during the fascist era. The tour continues with a visit to the cultural centre created on the site of the old fourteenth century city hospital, which offers a more ample insight into architecture of thefascist period.
