Ladies, love and intrigue

Ladies, love and intrigue

This itinerary visits the places associated with the poet Ludovico Ariosto and Lucrezia Borgia: the fourteenth Century Este Castle, the Marchionale Palace with its splendid court of honour,  i-poeti-e-le-dame and the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. It is possible to admire the fifteenth century Casa Romei, decorated with frescos and today home to a museum and the nearby Monastery of Corpus Domini where the tombs of the Este family rest. On the facade of Casa Romei we can read a plague which reminds us of where the poet Ercole Strozzi, close friend of Lucrezia Borgia, was assassinated. As an alternative to the Monastery it is possible to carry out a panoramic tour with the tour bus to reach the Diamond Palace, and the nearby home of Ariosto.
