The Abbey of Pomposa

The Abbey of Pomposa

The abbey of Pomposa represented a center of exceptional cultural and religious importance in the Middle Ages.
The visit begins with the splendid bell tower built in brick abbazia-di-pomposa-55 with terracotta decorations, the marble of the atrium and then continues with the interior of the church with its mosaic floors and 14th century frescos on the walls executed in the style of Giotto. The tour then visits other parts of the abbey complex with the various frescos carried out in the course of the 14th century and concludes with the museum full of ancient exhibits.
The visit to Pomposa can be easily combined with a visit to Comacchio which can be reached after a short drive along the panoramic Via Acciaoli.
